How To Clean Your Baitcaster

Are you ready?? Brace yourselves...

Because we're going to go over...how to clean your baitcaster!!!

Apparently, the idea of dismantling a baitcaster gives some people palpitations - but information technology'due south not nearly as scary as anybody makes information technology out to be.

But to clarify before we start, I'll be talking you through a semi-deconstruction; yous will take apart *most* of your reel, but we won't be taking every single piece off - by and large because information technology's not necessary for routine maintenance - simply also because the pieces get smaller and easier to lose, the more you dismantle your reel. Get used to taking your reel apart and putting it back together before you attempt taking it completely apart.

Gather all of your supplies, and brand certain you're sitting somewhere that you won't have your dismantled reel pieces bumped into.

As you take your reel apart, keep EVERYTHING in the exact order and management you took information technology off!

Start by taking your reel off of your rod

Clip the lure off of your line, reel information technology tightly to the spool, and secure it down with record

Release the brake plate from your reel - this reel has a latch but others may have a pin, knob, or tension rod

Remove the brake plate and the spool from the reel

Now inspect and clean the worm gear - it's the exposed gear underneath where your line comes off of the spool

Inspect and clean the reel body - certain parts get dirtier than others because the line coming off of the reel flings clay around every time you lot bandage

Now undo all of the screws holding the other side of the reel onto the body

Make certain you hold the plate tight to the reel torso as you unscrew everything

Turn the reel onto its side, with the handle on elevation, pointing towards the ceiling - then Advisedly lift information technology straight up off of the torso

At that place are tiny springs under the plate that can "popular" off if you aren't careful - they're not fun to have to discover on the flooring...merely enquire my married man, Ryan...

Set the reel body downwardly with the gears facing up, and then inspect and make clean the plate

Use the toothbrush to clean out the principal, big gear teeth

Once you lot get rid of all the nasty - use the grease on gears, reel oil on annihilation thats a pin or spins (like the handle knobs or spool pivot), and employ the bearing oil on all of the bearings

But remember - LESS IS More than - so utilize ONE driblet of oil where needed, and merely enough grease to have a tiny bit in all of the gear teeth

If y'all apply besides much oil or as well much grease, your reel will slow down - not speed up...

While you're greasing and oiling each piece, brainstorm putting the reel dorsum together (not setting freshly greased pieces back on the towel)

Once you're all done, bank check that everything was put dorsum together properly past reeling the handle, and adjusting the tension, drag, and brakes

If you've done a adept job, your reel should work like it's new again!

If your reel isn't working, take hold of your schematic, and go through the reel piece by slice.
Make sure that you've got all the pieces back on in the direction, and in the right order.
